Tracy Calogheros, CEO of The Exploration Place, shows off some of the activities that will be available for the Way Late Play Date on October 15, an event geared towards those 19-plus.

Ever wanted to run amok at a Science Centre? Here's the chance during the adults-only Way Late Play Date set up for an after-hours peek into The Exploration Place Museum + Science Centre on Saturday, starting at 7 p.m.

The idea sparked when Tracy Calogheros, the museum's CEO, attended a Science World event called the Science of Cocktails in Vancouver. The event saw attendance from in their 20s through 40s.

"So I brought the idea back to my team and they all loved it," said Calogheros. "We sounded out people in that age group here and it sounded like it would be a big hit so we thought we'd try it. We wanted to try something to get that age group engaging with us."

Ultimately, the idea is to have the event four times a year, added Calogheros.

"This first event will be a big test run and everyone that comes around will be used as guinea pigs and we'll see how it goes," laughed Calogheros.

There's going to be a DJ on the boat in the children's gallery.

"So he'll be spinning tunes, we'll have a couple of bars set up and then upstairs in the main gallery we've just purchased this new system called Keva Planks," said Calogheros. "It's giant building blocks and you can do all these neat engineering things with them so we're going to have staff up there helping people work their way through how the system operates and they'll be able to build and then trash each other's and share pictures of what they build on Instagram and we're going to run some contesting around that."

There will be skill-testing games like those in the television game show Minute To Win It.

"It's not a sit-down dinner where everybody will have to listen to a bunch of talking heads," said Calogheros. "It'll just be ID at the door, come on in, check your coat and then go have some fun in the galleries and have a drink. I think it'll be a really fun evening for adults."

Oakroom Grill will provide snacks.

Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door. To get tickets online visit www.theexplorationplace.com/parties-and-rentals/way-late-play-date.
