An 18-year-old Prince George man was sentenced Wednesday to a year probation after he was found behind the wheel of a stolen sport utility vehicle last month.

Donovan Blaine Roberts was issued the term in Prince George provincial court for one count each of possession of stolen property and willfully resisting or obstructing a peace officer.

Roberts was arrested July 6 when RCMP spotted him driving a Jeep Liberty reported stolen earlier that day from the parking lot of the Signature Sandman.

It was seen near 20th Avenue and Upland Street at about 5 p.m. and the officer followed him until it was parked on the 2100 block of Upland, RCMP said at the time. Roberts provided a false name when he was approached, police also said.

Roberts had remained in custody since his arrest.
