The Prince George and North District RCMP continued to target impaired drivers, doling out nearly 30 citations on the last weekend before Christmas.

Between Dec. 19 and Dec. 21, hundreds of vehicles were checked during stationary and mobile CounterAttack road checks.

The weekend operation resulted in three impaired driving charges being laid, nine 90-day immediate roadside prohibitions with 30-day vehicle impounds and eight three-day immediate roadside prohibitions with three-day vehicle impounds.

There were also six 24-hour driving prohibitions issued for drug use and one new driver who got a 12-hour driving ban for alcohol. RCMP also caught one prohibited driver on the road.

CounterAttack enforcement will continue throughout the rest of December and RCMP are reminding drivers of the variety of options available to help them get home after a night out.

"Sober friends and family, transit, taxis, safe ride businesses and Operation Red Nose are all good options to increase your chance of getting home safely and decrease the chance of injuries or death this holiday season," said a statement from the Prince George RCMP.
