A lawsuit against the Theatre North West Society alleging defamation has been dropped.

TNW's former artistic director Ted Price and general manager Anne Laughlin filed a notice of discontinuance July 15 in B.C. Supreme Court in Vancouver.

Price and Laughlin had alleged a former artistic director had made defamatory statements about the two during a meeting with three of the Society's board members. They also claimed the board failed to give them an opportunity to defend themselves against the statements.

But in a response, the Society contended Price and Laughlin were the "authors of their own misfortune" through their decision to make public the notes from the meeting.

The notice did not say why the proceedings had been discontinued.

Price and Laughlin had launched the suit in December 2015 and followed that up with an amended claim in March. The Society's response was filed in April.
