Deadly drunk driver sentenced to jail time

A Quesnel man was sentenced Tuesday to two years less a day for a deadly and drunken car crash that ended the life of a Prince George teen.

A Quesnel man was sentenced Tuesday to two years less a day for a deadly and drunken car crash that ended the life of a Prince George teen.

Cody Robert Francis Dan was also sentenced to one year probation and issued a three-year driving prohibition for the early-morning Aug. 16, 2012 crash on the Nazko Highway.

Dan's car was near Long Road where it down an steep embankment, hit a large tree stump and burst into flames, according to accounts from the B.C. Coroners Service and the RCMP at the time.

Passenger Larry Dallas Barry Laurent, 17, died at the scene. Dan, who as 19 at the time, was taken to hospital in Quesnel for treatment of non-life threatening injuries following the incident.

Dan was issued the sentence during a hearing in B.C. Supreme Court in Quesnel on a count of drunk driving causing death. He was also sentenced to 30 days in jail for taking a vehicle without consent.
