Habitat for Humanity Canada will be seeking the court's approval to sell its old ReStore.

A hearing is set for next Thursday in Vancouver for an application to hand over the site on Queensway near First Avenue to Insight Progressive Holdings Ltd. for $381,100.

It was the highest of three offers Habitat Canada received after the location was put up for sale for a list price of $375,000.

The application could be contested. According to a filing in B.C. Supreme Court, Habitat originally accepted an offer, made in May, from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Engineers Local 993 for $360,000.

But Habitat Canada "did not understand at the time that further offers would be forthcoming," and in July received the offer from Insight Progressive, based in Prince George.

The effort to sell the building follows a prolonged legal battle with Prince George-based Hearts and Hands for Homes over control of the building and other properties around the city after Habitat Canada disaffiliated the local group.

Habitat Canada had wanted to sell the building, citing safety problems while Hearts and Hands maintained it was still a viable place to operate. The building, also known as the Salvage Store for a brief time, was home to a second-hand store for building material and furniture with the proceeds going towards the non-profit group.

The Habitat movement provides housing, built by volunteers, to low-income families.
