A stretch of Highway 97 south of Prince George was closed for several hours Thursday night after a utility truck ran into the back of a flat-deck tractor trailer that had stopped as directed by construction flaggers.

The utility truck caught on fire as a result and its driver was taken to hospital for treatment and later released.

Emergency personnel, including members of the Buckhorn Volunteer Fire Department, were called to the scene about 19 kilometres south of Prince George at 5:45 a.m. The section remained closed for about five hours but there was a detour available.

Speed and alcohol are being regarded as possible contributing factors and the investigation is continuing, RCMP said Friday.

Anyone who may have information about the collision, is asked to call North District RCMP at 250-561-3100 and and ask to speak to traffic services.
