A group of 13 colleges and universities will be holding an information session for prospective students and their parents this evening.

The event, hosted by the Post-Secondary Institutions of B.C., will held in Prince George, Kamloops and Nanaimo and are scheduled in the evenings to make it easier for parents to attend. Josh Keller, administrative coordinator for the Post-Secondary Institutions of B.C., said post-secondary institutions have been visiting and making presentations to students at high schools across the province for decades during school hours.

"That is not a time that is particularly accessible to parents," Keller said. "We encourage people, even if their kids are a little bit younger -even in the early years of high school -to come out and learn about the post-secondary system. It's a valuable investment of a couple hours."

The event will start with a presentation about the post-secondary options available to students in the province and about how the post-secondary system in general works, he said. Even parents who attended college or university themselves can benefit from the presentation, he added.

"The post-secondary system has become much more complex -there is so many options," he said.

Following the presentation, there will be a fair-type event with booths set up by each of the respective institutions, where students and parents can find out more and ask questions specific to the institutions.

The College of New Caledonia, UNBC, Capilano University, Kwantlen Polytechnic University, Nicola Valley Institute of Technology, Northern Lights College, Okanagan College, Simon Fraser University, Thompson Rivers University, Trinity Western University, UBC and the University of Victoria will have representatives taking part.

The event takes place at the Prince George Civic Centre from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
