The Computing Technology Industry Association honoured the College of New Caledonia (CNC) with its "Rising Star" award for Canada on Monday.

CompTIA, a world-renowned non-profit information technology association issuing professional certifications for the information technology industry, chose CNC to receive the award among more than 200 other post-secondary institutions throughout Canada.

"You picked the cream of the crop," CompTIA Director of Business Development, Canada, Denise Woods-Goldstein told a room full of CNC students in the Canfor Technical Centre.

CNC became an official partner in 2011, giving students and employees access to discounted voucher pricing towards CompTIA certification exams.

In the past two years, the College experienced a significant increase in students receiving CompTIA certifications.

"We've seen a lot of growth at CNC," she said.

As a global standard for professional certification, recognition from CompTIA is a big honour for the College, according to Computer Network Electronics Technician and Post-Diploma, Information Technology, instructor Mike Egglestone.

"CNC is committed to educating its students with world-wide recognized professional skills and knowledge of the IT industry," he said. "It's amazing to receive this award from CompTIA."
