CNC gets government grant

The College of New Caledonia, along with eight other organizations got a grant for as much as $40,000 from B.C.'s Building Excellence Research and Education Grants program.

The College of New Caledonia, along with eight other organizations got a grant for as much as $40,000 from B.C.'s Building Excellence Research and Education Grants program.

The local college got $40,000 to develop a method to determine the total thermal resistance of a house on-site, according to a recent news release.

The program distributed $331,950 in funding through BC Housing after reviewing submissions for the 2018 grants.

The grants offer support for research and education which improves residential construction quality and enhances consumer protection for buyers of new homes in the province.

Those eligible for the grants include industry and consumer organizations, providers of education and researchers.

Along with the College of New Caledonia, the following also received 2018 grants:

* Building Officials' Association of BC

* Canada Green Building Council

* Canadian Home Builders' Association

* Community Energy Association

* Langara College

* Owner Builder Training Ltd.

* Vancouver Economic Commission

* Yale First Nation
