City community grants seeking applications

The city is calling for new ideas to encourage celebration and inspire community pride by helping make Prince George a greater place to live. There are three grants available to make these ideas a reality.

The city is calling for new ideas to encourage celebration and inspire community pride by helping make Prince George a greater place to live.

There are three grants available to make these ideas a reality.

The Community Enhancement Grant, the myPG Community Grant and the Celebrate Prince George Community Grant all provide financial support to non-profit organizations and community groups.

"Our community is full of volunteers and non-profit groups with great ideas to encourage and promote health, recreation, well-being and special events," says Cheryl Livingstone Leman, City of Prince George community coordinator.

"These grants can act as the spark that helps a great idea ignite."

The Community Enhancement Grant offers community members an opportunity to improve neighbourhoods, foster civic pride and grow a proud, confident, safe, sustainable and healthy community according to the city. Grants range from $200 to $1,000.

The Celebrate Prince George Community Grant financially supports the growth and development of new and existing events happening in both July and February during the Celebrate Prince George winter and summer festivals.

The upcoming October deadline will cover events in 2018.

The city will consider applications with a minimum request of $5,000 and will support up to 100 per cent of eligible expenses.

The myPG Grant will assist local organizations develop and implement innovative activities, projects and events that contribute to "making Prince George a great community."

Activities can be of any size and should be accessible to residents of all backgrounds, ethnicities and income levels.

Applications will be based on the following criteria: increasing community pride, encouraging a safe community, providing social connections for citizens, encouraging physical activity, providing arts and cultural opportunities and ensuring equity and inclusion.
