The Citizen's Neil Godbout and Christine Hinzman both won first place in their respective categories at the Ma Murray Community Newspaper Awards.

The Citizen's editorial team was two for two at the annual Ma Murray Community Newspaper Awards as both entries came away with top prizes.

Managing editor Neil Godbout won the editorial category for his January 2014 piece titled Matters deserved better, discussing the "truly appalling details" that surfaced during the coroner's inquest into the death of Greg Matters.

Reporter Christine Hinzmann won the Online Innovation Award for her feature, Art a catalyst for positive change.

The May 2014 project used audio, video, photography and writing to examine how residential school survivor turned addictions counselor, Jane Inyallie, used art on her healing journey and now helps those in the First Nations community of Prince George do the same.

Hinzmann and Godbout got the good news Saturday night at the gala hosted by the BC and Yukon Community Newspapers Association. The BCYCNA awards celebrate all aspects of the newspaper industry, including production, publishing, reporting, editing, advertising, photography, website design and community contribution.

Publisher Colleen Sparrow will be a director with the BCYCNA for a second year in a row.

Tim Shoults, Vice-President of Content for Glacier Media (the Citizen's parent company) became the new board chair.
