Northern Health is holding consultations across the region on children’s health.

Starting next week, Northern Health will hold its seventh board consultation series called Growing Up Healthy geared to the health and well-being of children from conception to the age of 17 years old across the north.

"Northern Health's consultation series is an effective way to gather information from people in northern B.C. and identify how best to support the health of children and youth," said Terry Lake, health minister. "The consultation will provide an opportunity to promote existing work, particularly in rural areas, and recognizes that working to improve the health of the youngest residents is a key step to a healthier north."

This project that starts on May 19 will grow from the child health report by the chief medical health officer released last month that showcases supports already available to give children a healthy start while taking note of areas that need more attention, said a recent news release.

The consultation will hold 12 community meetings to discuss various ideas.

There will be nine sessions with groups that work directly with children and youth like the Ministry of Children and Family Development, school districts, and day cares.

There will be sessions with youth groups held within the region, online engagement and a survey at northernhealth.ca.

The information gathered through the consultations will be put into a report that will be included with the April report to see an action plan to create or make better the services already in place.

The local consultation will be held June 2 at the Prince George Ramada Hotel from 7 to 9 p.m. For more information visit northernhealth.ca and click on community consultation.
