One person is facing a handful of charges after leading North District RCMP on a chase Sunday afternoon.

At 3 p.m. a North District officer spotted a speeding 1994 Chevrolet Lumina with mismatched licence plates traveling west on Fifth Avenue at Carney Street. When the officer caught up to the car to confirm the plates, the car sped up, forcing other vehicles off the road.

The Lumina continued to speed north onto Highway 97, forcing other vehicles to take evasive action, according to the RCMP. The car crossed the John Hart Bridge

After crossing the John Hart Bridge and exiting on to North Nechako Road, the driver lost control, struck two traffic signs and then a traffic light post, shearing it off at the base.

The driver left the car behind and began to flee on foot but was caught after a short pursuit. They were then transported to the hospital as a precaution.

In addition to driving an unlicensed vehicle containing a variety of ammunition, the driver was unlicensed and prohibited.

They were released from custody on a promise to appear for flight from police, dangerous driving, breach of recognizance, and prohibited driving along with a stocking stuffed with violation tickets for a plethora of other offences (including not having insurance, driving an unregistered vehicle and misusing licence plates).

Witnesses to Sunday's incident are asked to contact the North District RCMP's traffic services at 250-649-4004.
