To take a bit of worry out of the hands of those with cancer in Prince George, the Freemasons of B.C. and Yukon offer a cancer car program to those within the city limits.

The free program, that's been in place for the last year and a half, offers a ride to anyone with cancer to anywhere they need to go for treatment in Prince George.

"We pick up the clients at their residence or wherever they are staying in town, we will take them to their appointment, whether it be at the hospital, the cancer clinic, to Northern Health to change their bandages, or their doctor and when their appointment is completed, we'll take them back to where they are staying," said Terry Foulds, coordinator of the cancer car program. "And this is all done by volunteers, free of charge and financed by the Masonic Community Charities Fund."

There are about 50 volunteers who are willing to work in five-hour shifts between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The Freemasons of B.C. and Yukon have had this program for 25 years, which started in the lower mainland, then expanded to Vancouver Island in 1991, to the Thompson-Okanagan region in 1998 and most recently to Prince George in April 2013.

Foulds wants to stress that the cancer car program is not just for those staying at Kordyban Lodge, even though their office is located there.

"We are here to serve anyone within the city limits," said Foulds.
