Long-time Exploration Place executive director Tracy Calogheros is seeking the nomination to run for the Liberals in Cariboo-Prince George in the next federal election.

Calogheros announced her intention Friday saying the region, and the whole country, is "ripe for change."

"I have always been a Liberal, I've been involved with the party since 1998," Calogheros said. "I think that after their setbacks in the early- and mid-2000s, the party has found its feet again and is ready to govern."

Calgheros said she is running because she loves the region and all the work she did with the 2015 Canada Winter Games "just inspired me that much more."

It's also a good time for her personally to take a shot at becoming a candidate and possibly the MP, she added.

"My kids are now grown and moved out, my husband are now at the point where we were ready to take this kind of step and I've been at the museum for over 21 years now," Calogheros said.

"A change is as good as a rest they tell me but I think it's the right time, the right place and hopefully people think I'm the right person."

Her next step is to sign up some members and go through the nomination process which included a vetting process where the party decides if she is a suitable candidate.

Given that the writ will be dropped in September, she expects a formal date will be set sometime within the next month.

"And I do know that there is at least one other candidate interested in the same riding so I'm sure there will be a nomination meeting," Calogheros said.
