Family Caregiver Series

Saturday, Sept. 10 and 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 202-575 Quebec St. there will be a five topic, two-day series presented by the local branch of the Alzheimer Society of BC for family members who are caring for a person with dementia. Topics include understanding dementia, understanding communication, understanding behaviour, planning for the future, self-care for caregivers. Pre-registration is required. Parkinson SuperWalk

Saturday, Sept. 10 from  noon to 3 p.m. at Lheidli T'enneh Memorial Park on the 17th Ave. & Taylor Drive side the Parkinson SuperWalk, the single most important provincial and national awareness and fundraising event for Parkinson Society British Columbia (PSBC) will be held. Outdoor Movie Night at Huble

Saturday, Sept.10 for 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Huble Homestead Historic Site, 40 km north of Prince George, just off Highway 97 on Mitchell Rd., there will be a movie night held when the historic site takes a turn for the terrifying with an outdoor showing of The Blair Witch Project. Public library weekly events

Tuesdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m., the Prince George Public Library, Bob Harkins branch, hosts the Library QSA, which is a safe space for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, two-spirited, queer, questioning and straight teens, and teens with LGBTQ families. Teen friends and allies are welcome. The Library QSA is a city-wide group open to all youths in Grades 8 to 12 in Prince George. 

Tuesdays from 4 to 5 p.m. and Thursdays from 1 to 2 p.m. the doctor is IN to help find a cure for  technical woes. If help is needed setting up any devices, from smart phones to tablets to laptops, drop in to one of these sessions. Dr. Tech and his volunteer tutors offer guided assistance and provide helpful tips on all manner of devices and software applications.

Wednesdays from 11:30 to noon at the Prince George Public Library, Nechako branch, it's Baby Time for newborn to 11 months. Enjoy half an hour of songs and rhymes, followed by time for babies and their caregivers to visit. Free drop-in event.

Wednesdays from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Prince George Public Library, Nechako branch, hosts Teen Drop-In where teens are invited to try a different activity each week, from tech projects to video games. This is a fun, safe space for teens to visit with old friends and make new ones.

Thursdays from 2:30 to 4 p.m. come visit Dr. Tech for 1-on-1 technical assistance. Sign-up for 30 minutes of help with you computer, phone, e-reader, or other technical device.

Needlecrafters meet Saturdays from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Bob Harkins branch. Bring a craft you're working on or start something new in this cozy, social gathering of sewers and needlecrafters. This is a free drop-in event. For more information visit www.pgpl.ca.

 

Yoga in the Park

Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Willow River – corner of Railway Avenue and Willow Street. There is a local community market in the heart of Willow River. Spruce Capital Seniors 

Mondays at 12:30 p.m. join the Spruce Capital Seniors at the Recreation Centre, 3701 Rainbow Dr., for crib, while tai chi goes from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. for a drop in fee of $2 and canasta goes Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 3 p.m. Entry fee is $1. Bingo goes Wednesdays from 1 to 3 p.m. There's a crib tournament that goes the first Saturday of the month. Registration is at 10 a.m. play begins at 11 a.m. $10 per person. Breast Cancer Support Group

Every first and third Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at St. Michael's Anglican Church, 1505 - 5th Ave., there are Breast Cancer Support Group meetings that include informal conversations about individual breast cancer experiences from diagnosis through treatment to life after breast cancer.

Offering emotional support, encouragement, and a listening ear. Talk with women who have 'been there, done that' and help each other move forward one day at a time. COPD Support Group

Heartbeat

Every community experiences death by suicide. When an intentionally self-inflicted death occurs families and friends suffer a magnitude of isolated, complicated grief. Because the grief that follows suicide is different from grief resulting from other causes of death the Canadian Mental Health Association formed HEARTBEAT, a group of mutual support for those who have suffered loss through suicide. Story Time at Books & Co.

Saturdays at 10 a.m. at 1685 Third Avenue enthusiastic storyteller Kayli entertains the children with books and crafts, offering the grown ups a chance to relax in the cafe or browse the bookstore. There is no charge for this event. 

 

Beginners Yoga 101

First Sunday of the month from 11 a.m. to noon at Chinook Yoga Studio, 320 Vancouver St., there's a one-hour free workshop held in a safe environment where everyone is new.
