Blue Belles bling it up at North Central Seniors' Association

These are the Blue Bling Belles, a social group of ladies belonging to the North Central Seniors Association, along with the association's president Howard Foot.

There's a bevy of senior beauties, a group that's a part of the North Central Seniors Association, that gathers together once a month to see what kind of mischief they can make together.

Oh sure, the Blue Bling Belles look innocent enough at first glance, but then the roar of female laughter drifts into the games room where all the men are gathered to entertain themselves at the pool table and the secret's out. These ladies like to have fun.

There's a dozen or so that make up the group and they decided in honour of St. Patrick's Day in March to view a slide show on Ireland and its wondrous landscapes.

The event is fairly sedate at first but when you've got the Belles all together in one room, that doesn't last long.

Sure enough there's a mention of the amazingly cheap flights that are available between locations in Europe - or are they really cheap flights? The answer comes quickly in the form of a YouTube video shown immediately after the slideshow entitled Cheap Flights by Fascinating Aida to be found at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPyl2tOaKxM.

After much hilarity it soon becomes apparent that those cheap flights are not so cheap after all.

With lingering grins on their faces the Blue Bling Belles retire to the kitchen for tea and coffee and of course, the snacks abound because no meeting is complete until there's a little treat to be had.

The Belles like to explore the city by trying out new restaurants, going to their favourite haunts to hang out and utilize the talents within their group.

"At Christmas we made beautiful centre pieces with fresh flowers because two of our girls were florists before they retired," said Lou Ellerton, a Blue Bling Belle. The group also did watercolour on silk scarves as part of their crafting efforts.

The group runs from September to May as summer gets to be too busy for most of the group. The only requirement to join is that participants wear something blingy and blue.

"Underwear counts," said Lorraine Dauray, Blue Bling Belle member. "Men are allowed to be members but not too many have been. We just have fun getting together and sometimes we just sit and talk. It's something fun with no pressure because who needs it?"

It's all good fun.

"And this gives our husbands- after 40 or 50 years of marriage - a new thing to buy because we all need some new blue bling," said Ellerton with a gleam in her eye.

Aside from their usual activities, members of the group have a best-kept secret as three of the brats - er, Belles - transform themselves into Polly Farton, Loretta Sin and Tammy Why Not to entertain the North Central Seniors Association members in a very special way. They don glitzy wigs, outrageous costumes and make up tongue-in-cheek songs as a testament to their true affection for the seniors' group. To see the trio in action, check out this video.
