Foothills landfill was among the casualties when a power outage struck more than 2,100 customers Thursday afternoon.

The landfill was closed as a precaution, Fraser-Fort George Regional District spokesperson Renee McCloskey said in a statement.

A "bird contacting our wires" was listed as the cause of the outage, according to the BC Hydro website.

It began at 1:17 p.m. and lasted slightly less than 1 1/2 hours.

The landfill was subsequently reopened.

In all, 2,179 customers were affected east of Foothills Boulevard, west of Rosemont Drive and south of Knight Crescent.
