BID Group selected to build state-of-the-art mill

The Vanderhoof-based BID Group of Companies has landed a contract to built a state-of-the art sawmill in Newton, Mississippi.

The Vanderhoof-based BID Group of Companies has landed a contract to built a state-of-the art sawmill in Newton, Mississippi.

Work on the he $80-million project for Biewer Lumber will start in the second quarter of 2016, creating 125 jobs in the process, and should be in operation by the second quarter of 2017.

In a statement BID Group credited its expansion into the southern United States for winning the contract.

It now has a complex in St. George, South Carolina in addition to 13 other facilities spread across North America.

It purchased the operation in 2013, the same year BID Group bought Quebec-based Comact Equipment Inc. turning it into one of the largest sawmill manufacturers in North America.
