Prince George's annual northern exhibition got a $70,000 gaming grant for the second year in a row.

The provincial funding will pump into the fair's 103rd edition this August, which features draft horse and barrel racing, the annual 4-H Auction and other agriculture-inspired shows.

"The B.C. Northern Exhibition celebrates our unique northern spirit," said Alex Huber, board president of the British Columbia Northern Exhibition, which hosts the event.

"Funding will be used for entertainment, which includes a rodeo, a battle of the bands and a taste market where chefs will cook locally grown food," continued Huber in the press release, posted Thursday. "There's something for everyone at the fair, so come on out and have some fun with the entire family."

Prince George-Mackenzie MLA Mike Morris called the event a "summer highlight" for the area.

"Regional fairs like these help build a sense of community and support not only our local farmers, but farmers throughout the north-central Interior," Morris said in the release. "It's part of our culture and offers a variety of fun activities for people from all walks of life."

The fair runs from August 12 to 16.

Last year Prince George was one of 18 fairs that divided up $794,000 in community gaming grants and was fourth highest on that funding list.
