You will no longer need a credit card to pay for a ride on the BC Bus North service when it takes to the road on Monday.
The service is now equipped to accept payment by debit card, in person, when passengers board the bus, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transportation said Thursday.
You will still need to reserve your seat ahead of time by calling the BC Bus North call centre - the deadline is 2 p.m. the day before - and then complete the debit transaction when boarding the bus.
Tickets can be purchased online with a credit card at BCBus.ca or by contacting the call centre at 1-844 564-7494, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
BC Bus North is the interim, long-haul northern bus service that will fill the gap left by Greyhound when it discontinues service on the majority of its northern routes on Monday.
It will provide twice-weekly service between Prince George and Prince Rupert, Prince George and Valemount and Prince George and Fort St. John and once-a-week service between Fort St. John and Fort Nelson.
One-way fares are either $35 or $45, per route, depending on how far people are travelling.
It will be operated by Pacific Western Transportation, using four highway coaches equipped with luggage and washroom facilities.
The Province will fund BC Bus North for one year, while the government works with local leaders to develop a long-term solution.
BC Transit's service along Highway 16 West, between Prince George and Terrace will continue to operate, as will the North Health Connections service. Both of these services are equipped to serve passengers in wheelchairs while the BC Bus North service does not.
