Each year, the Handy Circle Resource Centre proves that money really does grow on trees during their annual Loonie Auction held at 950 Kerry St. Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

Loonie trees are among the 135 items up for grabs during the two-day auction.

Participants can browse the items at the auction and stack the deck in their favour by purchasing tickets for a loonie each and by concentrating on an item or two so odds are better to get the item of choice. The winning ticket drawn from the bag beside each item takes home the prize.

Draws for the winners begins at 2 p.m. Sunday.

There are oil paintings, a harvest wreath from Michael's, gift certificates to restaurants, a lovely lamp donated by McInnis Lighting, and a variety of gift baskets.

Proceeds go towards Handy Circle's programs for people with disabilities and special needs, like lessons on how to use a computer, workshops on practical things like how to get a fishing licence and on personal growth like exploring feelings and communication through story telling.

"All our programs are free," said Lorraine Young, Handy Circle Resource Centre director. "We even have free sign language classes."
