Airport powers up

Passengers affected by Friday night's flight cancellations at Prince George Airport should contact their airlines, an airport official said Saturday.

Passengers affected by Friday night's flight cancellations at Prince George Airport should contact their airlines, an airport official said Saturday.

Lindsay Cotter, manager of marketing and communications for the airport, confirmed the airport was back in operation after wet, heavy snow cut power to the facility Friday. A back-up generator that handled airfield lighting subsequently failed, said Cotter, making it unsafe for planes to land and take off at the airport.

Crews continued to work on the back-up generator Saturday morning, she added, and were replacing a water pump.

Several flights between Prince George and Vancouver were cancelled Friday night. BC Hydro crews restored power to the airport at 10:30 p.m.

Cotter said a few Saturday morning flights were affected because planes that would have normally overnighted at the airport did not arrive Friday night.
