Air quality advisory issued for Prince George

High concentrations of fine particulate matter have prompted the Ministry of Environment to issued an air quality advisories for Prince George, Vanderhoof, Burns Lake, Houston and Valemount.

High concentrations of fine particulate matter have prompted the Ministry of Environment to issued an air quality advisories for Prince George,  Vanderhoof, Burns Lake, Houston and Valemount.

The advisories for Vanderhoof, Houston and Valemoutn were issued shortly after 5 p.m. on Monday and for Prince George and Burns Lake shorly before 11 a.m. Tuesday.

All are expected to remain in place until Thursday.

Vanderhoof and Valemount were also the subject of air quality advisories for two days last week.

Those with chronic underlying medical conditions should postpone strenuous exercise until the advisory is lifted.

Staying indoors and in air conditioned spaces helps to reduce fine particulate exposure.

Exposure is particularly a concern for infants, the elderly and those who have diabetes, and lung or heart disease.

Restrictions on the use of woodstoves are now in effect for the District of Houston.
