The tenth annual 'Ut'loo Noye Khunni ~ Weaving Words Celebration kicked off at the University of Northern B.C. Wednesday with words and art inspired by aboriginal storytellers.

Mohawk/Tuscarora poet and performer Janet Rogers kicked off the celebrations. Rogers has been a regular at Weaving Words and is also UNBC's new writer in residence.

She was joined by author and journalist Waubgeshig Rice from the Wasauksing First Nation in Ontario.

UNBC also unveiled a 25th anniversary art legacy project named Reflections - Past, Present, and Future.

More than 40 artists helped create a series of 26 fused glass pieces and Canadian artist Betty Kovacic created two paintings entitled Leap of Faith and The Future Awaits for the piece. The festival runs through to Saturday and the schedule is posted on the event's Facebook page.
