Nancy O's hosting northern talent

A northern music double-bill comes to the Nancy O's stage Saturday night.

King Crow and the Ladies From Hell call themselves "a nine-headed performing behemoth hailing from Terrace" and are returning after a year and a half away from Prince George. Opening for them are popular Vanderhoof band Rosewood's Diary, with their six members. Together they are almost equivalent in numbers to a whole music festival.

King Crow and the Ladies From Hell initiated the concert as part of their tour for new album Songs of Misery and Hope. They play a blend of Celtic, Gypsy and pub-inspired power folk.

Rosewood's Diary has carved a reputation for compelling original folk songs. They have played Art Space and the Cold Snap festival in the past and now come to do their part at Nancy O's.

Sounds of Africa

The African Children's Choir returns to Prince George on July 25. Their rousing choral voice and inspirational story takes them all over the world raising funds and awareness for important causes on the African continent. They have been a popular attraction in previous P.G. appearances.

Their performance here will be at the Evangelical Free Church (4590 5th Ave.) at 7 p.m.

For more information call the church at 250-564-5889.

Bright idea

Prince George buzz band Bright City Heights performs at Nancy O's on Friday night.

The band features some of the city's best-known music talent.

David Baycroft won last year's PG Idol competition and handles the band's bass, while Lee-Wai Yu won the last year's The Voice competition by radio station 101.3 The River and handles keyboards and the vocal load. Nick Rubadeau pounds the drums while Mike Vigano is on guitar. They each have strong vocal abilities, bringing a lot of layers to their indie-folk sound.

Their singles Ivory and My Dear are both on local airwaves and clicking with downloads. An album is anticipated early this summer.

Bright City Heights takes the stage at 9 p.m.

Go back to the prom

For everyone looking back on their experiences at proms and spring formal dances, the Home Sweet Home Grocery crew is offering a spark of live nostalgia.

They are hosting a Re-Prom Dance at the Moose Hall for all those who loved those nights of teal cummerbunds and meringue taffeta, or cringe at the red-eyed photos of mullets and back-combed hair piles and want a "do-over." On Saturday you get the chance to hearken back or spring forward, with a live deejay and punch bowl and all the trappings of a teenage dream, but now you get to dance Stairway To Heaven in the sensible shoes of an adult.

Tickets are $15 available in advance at Home Sweet Home Grocery.

Fjellgaard back home

Prince George's own Gary Fjellgaard is returning to his hometown. The country-folk balladeer has been one of Canada's musical treasures and he continues to produce new, evocative roots music.

He is a Juno Award winner, was inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame, and always remembers where his career was launched. He will be at Art Space on Friday at 8 p.m.

Country crooner in the house

Ronnie McDowell brings his band to the Civic Centre on Sunday. The urban country crooner has launched million-seller singles like The King Is Gone (a 1977 megahit tribute to Elvis Presley), Watching Girls Go By, and many other radio riders. He duetted with icons like Conway Twitty and Jerry Lee Lewis. He toured with the biggest names in country music history. He was the singer for all the songs in the movie Elvis with Kurt Russell in the lead role. Now he comes to Prince George. Tickets available at Studio 2880, CN Centre box office or online at Ticketmaster.

Toopy and Binoo on the way

Popular children's characters Toopy and Binoo will be live in P.G. on October 23 at CN Centre. Tickets go on sale June 6 at CN Centre box office, Studio 2880 and Ticketmaster online.

Toopy and Binoo were born on the pages of books by Dominique Jolin, then became television stars starting in 2005. Now the live stage show is touring western Canada for the first time.
