On June 13, join the Prince George Community Band at a special concert event at the Railway & Forestry Museum to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the City of Prince George plus the 25th anniversary of the band. The event gets underway at 1 p.m. and includes all the display features and some special activities provided by the museum. Hear renditions of Broadway musicals, folk songs, big band, movie themes, and of course there will be birthday cake.

The changing of the seasons has its own special event. "Dive deep into the gathering power of Summer Solstice," said Danielea Castell, the featured performer at Sonic Tonic on June 18. The event is described as "a sound medicine journey with a musical alchemist."

Castell will facilitate the musical creations involving bells, flute, drums, harmonium, crystal bowls, and the human voice. Only 24 spaces are available. Call 250-981-8067 or email danielea.castell@gmail.com for more information.

Group or private sewing lessons are available by Kay Brookes. Learn this textile art whether you are at the beginner level, need a refresher, have a specific project or have tailoring to do. Black Spruce Bog is the headline act at a concert in support of the Sea To Sands Conservation Alliance on June 26 at the Moose Hall (663 Douglas Street). Tickets are $20 in advance at Books & company or $25 at the door while supplies last. All proceeds go to anti-Enbridge pipeline legal challenges.

On July 16 at the Coast Inn of the North, come see Ying'hentzit (Rejuvenation) First Nations Arts Gala. This joint presentation of the Two Rivers Gallery and Carrier Sekani Family Services is a charitable evening dedicated to the preservation of indigenous art skills. Tickets are $100 or $900 for a table of 10. A live auction is included with this gala dinner. Tickets are available at Studio 2880.

The Hart Pioneer Centre welcomes classic country band Special Delivery on June 27 at 8 p.m. for a dance. Tickets are $10 at the door. Refreshments included. All those 19-plus are welcome. Call 250-962-6712 for information.

Two Rivers Gallery is recruiting knitters for the Yarn Bomb Squad. As part of the celebrations of Prince George's 100th anniversary, 2RG is assembling this squad to knit sweaters for trees. The plan is to decorate 100 trees with colourful yard adornments, which is a worldwide activity proven to enliven and add humour to any urban space. Celtic stars Out of Alba are putting on a benefit concert for the Learning Differences Centre. See them at Art Space on June 13 at 7 p.m. They will be joined in the endeavour by former OOA band member, no soloist, Tom Young, making this a truly special event.

Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for those 13 years and younger. Get them in advance from Books & Co. or at the Learning Differences Centre (785 Patricia Blvd).

Life Lessons Fine Arts is holding a Kidz Art Workshop this July at their studio space (201-2414 Queensway Street). Acclaimed artist Peter George is the special instructor. Entitled "Self Discovery" this four-day arts exploration offers two age groups (9-12 and 13-15) for $200. Kids will learn symbolic self portraits, positive relationship art examinations, cultural expressions, and strengthening self-identity through cultural mosaic. On June 14, the Coldsnap Music Festival holds its Annual General Meeting. All interested are invited to attend and join the crew that produces one of Canada's great winter music events. The AGM will be at 2 p.m. in the Jack Bryan room at Studio 2880.

Cliff Mann, the Community Arts Council's artist-in-residence, is now the featured artist in the Studio 2880 feature gallery. His exhibition of paintings is entitled Bodies Of Water and depict human nude figures done in Mann's signature watercolour medium. His show is free to tour; the paintings are for sale at the arts headquarters at 2880 15th Avenue.

Exploration Place Museum & Science Centre has a new exhibit that digs through the snowy crusts of the planet's history and deep into the fossil record.

"Ice Age Mammals is a national travelling exhibition that explores the hot topic of climate change," said CEO Tracy Calogheros. "Find out all about the last ice age; the mammals that survived and those that didn't. See skulls and bones of ice age beasts, and detailed artwork of what they looked like. Touch a real mammoth tusk! Hear scientists' stories as they recount their Arctic adventures and discoveries. It's a cool experience."

Exploration Place displays are also in view in the First Nations Gallery, Children's Gallery, the Prince George Sports Hall of Fame and more showcase areas sure to engage local viewers and visitors from across Canada alike.

Classic rock legends Journey are coming to Prince George. This is a band with worldwide sales close to 90 million records, making them one of the world's best-selling bands of all time, on the strength of megahits like Don't Stop Believin', Faithfully, Open Arms, Chains and many more. They are the city's featured musical guests on July 15 during centennial homecoming events.

Legendary musician John Fogerty makes his return to Prince George for his 1969 Tour. This tour celebrates the extraordinary year in which Fogerty wrote and produced three seminal albums with Creedence Clearwater Revival. Their list of hits that year included Born On The Bayou, Proud Mary, Bad Moon Rising, Fortunate Son, Willy And The Poor Boys, and many more. Fogerty revives the soundtrack of our lives on July 26 at CN Centre.

Country rising star Lisa Nicole has a solo show at Art Space on July 29. The feisty singer-songwriter from the Kootenays has already toured across Canada, been featured at a Canadian Country Music Awards showcase, and won a pair of music industry awards (Album of the Year and Best Country Act at the 2014 Kootenay Music Awards) since the release of her debut EP entitled It Got Ugly. Tickets for her P.G. show are $12 available now at Books & Company.

Bringing Canada back to a powerful time in rock music and national culture, The Tragically Hip return to Prince George on Sept. 26 for their new journey called The Fully And Completely Tour. It looks back to the launch of some of their - and Canada's - biggest hits. This marks the peak of CN Centre's 20th anniversary celebrations while at the same time the city is turning 100 years old.

Two of Canada's biggest country male soloists ever are working together for a single night of dust and dirt. Paul Brandt and Dean Brody will share the headlines at CN Centre on Sept. 29 as they hit 21 cities across Canada on their Road Trip Tour. They're throwing in reigning Canadian Country Music Association Female Artist of the Year Jess Moskaluke as an added bonus.

Jason Aldean, one of country music's biggest current stars, will be lighting up the CN Centre stage on Oct. 6. He is bringing special guest country stars Cole Swindell and Tyler Farr with him, as well as country beat mixer Dee Jay Silver.

Two of the names most associated with putting the fun in to music are coming together to Prince George. On Oct. 19 Alan Doyle (of Great Big Sea) opens the show and Barenaked Ladies close the show on a night of hits, laughs and good times.
