One of key kids in Canadian comedy is coming our way.

"The Metro Comedy Circuit is very excited to be bringing Bruce McCulloch from Kids In The Hall," said local comedy promoter Jason Luke, proprietor of Metro Comedy.

The Metro shows are typically done on stages at pubs and community halls, but this show is markedly higher profile. McCulloch is one of the most acclaimed names in the history of Canadian comedy, and that is an industry almost as prolific as hockey in our national psyche. McCulloch was an international star alongside Dave Foley, Kevin McDonald, Mark McKinney, and Scott Thompson when they were collectively known as the Kids In The Hall (KITH) and had such a rabid fan following that they were forever cast into the elite of sketch troupes with the likes of Monty Python, Second City Television, the Royal Canadian Air Farce, Madd TV or Living Colour.

While the shape-shifting comedy quintet all shared the KITH spotlight about evenly, each cast member stood out for certain characters or characteristics. In McCulloch's case he excelled at deadpan delivery and a man-child blankness. He had a hit single in the giggly novelty tune These Are The Daves I Know, I Know.

He was a writer for Saturday Night Live and the ABC network show Carpoolers, he co-starred with the KITH guys in the movie Brain Candy, and on his own was in shows like Gilmore Girls and Twitch City. As a director, he was at the helm for the films Dog Park (starring Natasha Henstridge and Luke Wilson), Stealing Harvard (starring Jason Lee and Tom Green) and Superstar (starring Molly Shannon and Will Ferrell).

McCulloch is also renowned for his standup abilities.

He will bring his live show to Vanier Hall (along with special guest act Brian Connelly) on Sept. 30 at 8 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at Studio 2880.
