The quest for the limelight is once again glowing on the horizon.

The annual Limelight Quest singing competition is opening its registration doors this coming week. The city's aspiring singers can sign up as of 8 a.m. on June 30.

Limelight Quest has always had a good working relationship with some of the major public events during the summer, but this year they have worked out a full partnership with the biggest one of all. They have joined forces with the BC Northern Exhibition.

"We have made a couple of changes this year. The first is that the finals of the competition will be hosted at the BCNE on Friday, August 19th in Kin 3," said Limelight Quest chief organizer Dawn Boudreau. "The second change is a result of this. The competition will take place in August instead of July, as it has been since its inception in 2011."

This partnership turns a musical double play. Both sides are pleased.

"The BCNE hosted their own voice competition last year," said Boudreau. "They approached me about informing the singers from my competition about theirs. I did so, but also suggested that we team up, rather than having two summer vocal competitions. They thought it was a great idea."

"We are super excited that we have joined forces in making this event happen," agreed Liz Ramsey of the BCNE administration team.

All the regulations, prize information, contest announcements and public updates will be contained within the revamped event website found at www.limelightquest.com. That is also the spot where the online registration package is located. Volunteers will be needed, and that is also where sign-up can be done for key helper positions.

The preliminary rounds in the tournament-style singing competition will take place on Aug. 7 and 10 at Dreamland School of the Arts, followed by the semifinals on Aug. 13-14 at Cowboy Ranch Restaurant, then the finals and grand finale at the BCNE on Aug. 19.

"Registrations will close at midnight on August 3rd or when we reach 40 contestants," Boudreau said. "We are really looking forward to the extra excitement for the contestants that will be created by the energy of the annual exhibition. We think it will be a mutually beneficial arrangement for everyone."
