Limelight Quest competition still accepting entries

The deadline is fast approaching to get in on this year's Limelight Quest singing competition.

"Registrations are up from last year and almost all the entries are people totally new to the competition," said organizer Dawn Boudreau. "I have been spending a lot of time coaching and encouraging them via video conferencing."

Boudreau was born and raised in Prince George and now pursues her music career in the Lower Mainland. She nonetheless sets aside part of her summer to run the Limelight Quest event she founded years ago.

"I feel like it would be criminal to stop running the competition. People always tell me what a good experience it is and how much it pushes them personally in their music to improve and grow," she said.

This year's prize package is ripe with professional development incentives. There are professional photography sessions in all four of the top prize packages and a total of 11 performance opportunities available among the combination of prizes.

"It seems like opportunities are rising for musicians in Prince George, with organizations like Mad Loon and Shiraz encouraging live entertainment," Boudreau said. "I am excited by the new opportunities for Prince George rising stars. Even though I am building my business in Vancouver, it does my heart good to have this chance to impact the careers of the musicians in Prince George."

To get one of the spots still available in the contest, log onto www.limelightquest.com. Entries will close at midnight on Wednesday.

The competition runs from Aug. 7-19, with the finals at the BCNE.
