Christian country duo Doug and Marnie Phair live on a small dot on the map, near Burns Lake, about three hours west of Prince George. But they are on a much bigger map now, in a musical sense.
The Lakes District couple just earned a nomination for the Covenant Awards, Canada's premier recognition platform for Christian music. They are up for Country Song of the Year for their tune Eternity released this past summer on their debut album entitled A God Project.
"The Canadian Gospel Music Association has an event (the gala Covenant Awards show and convention) in Edmonton that we will attend in January," said Doug Phair. "We're pretty excited."
Alongside the Phair's song, the other nominees in the category include Dwayne Ferris with his song Jesus Is My Rock, Marquelle Piers with the song Shout To Heaven, Duncan & Jardeth Hemmerling with their song What's In Store, and Andy Taylor with the song What's Life All About.
This is the 38th annual Covenant Awards event. Some of the other names making waves this year on the nominees' lists include Melody Duncan, Andrew Marcus, Thousand Foot Krutch and Jaylene Johnson.
More than 30 trophies will be called out during the glitzy extravaganza.
In past years, some of the big names to get the call to the Covenant table are stars like Paul Brandt, Tommy Hunter, Steve Bell, Amanda Falk Cook and last year's big winner Chelsea Amber.
British Columbia has produced major international music stars who have rooted their music in their Christian faith - people like Carolyn Arends, Paul Janz, Brian Doerksen, Kelita Haverland and Greg Sczebel. Now Doug and Marnie Phair are indelibly added to that list.
The winners will be announced Jan. 26 during the live awards presentation event at the Shaw Conference Centre.
