One of the darlings of Canadian culture is coming to Prince George for a rare kind of concert experience.

Corb Lund has been here with his roots-country band The Hurtin' Albertans. He has been with his metal band The Smalls. He has never been here, or many other places for that matter, just on his own. That intimate presentation will happen on Nov. 6 at Vanier Hall as part of the modern cowboy's limited national tour.

"Playing with my band is great, but doing solo shows is a totally different experience that allows me to be more creative and interact with the audience in a whole new way," Lund said.

"It'll be a lot of fun, too."

The show is called B.S. With C.L. and promises a number of stories and anecdotes to go along with the songs.

Because it's just himself, there will have to be different renditions of all those hit songs that have earned him nominations and trophies at the Juno Awards, Canadian Country Music Awards, Canadian Independent Music Awards, Canadian Folk Music Awards, plus citations in Australia, France and the United States.

Those songs have an outlaw spirit, due to their storytelling values overarching any hit-maker formulas. He has blazed a trail back to traditional narratives and shown that mainstream listeners will indeed value the sparking of their minds alongside the tapping of their toes. The evidence is overwhelming with Lund tunes like Tool For The Job, Five Dollar Bill, The Truck Got Stuck, Hair In My Eyes Like A Highland Steer, Washed-Up Rock Star Factory Blues, and many others.

Lund has taken some time off from his country career to loop back around to his hard rock roots.

He broke into show business with The Smalls and the defunct group reformed by popular demand for some recent dates in the past few years.

His most recent country album was 2015's Things That Can't Be Undone and it lit up the music industry's critical eyes. None other than Rolling Stone declared Lund among the "10 New Country Artists You Need to Know," while the NPR radio network in the United States called it "a high mark of a long career."

He has been touring relentlessly ever since its release.

His solo appearance in Prince George is booked for Nov. 6 at 7:30 p.m. at Vanier Hall. (He will also appear in Quesnel on Nov. 9 and Williams Lake on Nov. 10.)

Tickets are $45 available exclusively at the Studio 2880 ticket desk (2880 15th Ave.), or call 250-563-2880 to charge by phone.
