Jim you come back to Mackenzie after YEARS of not living here and spoke to a "few" long time residents and suddenly you think you can pass judgment on our Mayor? I have lived here for 20 years so I think my opinion is the correct one as I see her work daily by living here. Not by revisiting and then judging!
Steph has done a great job for our town considering the economic downfall we are suffering from the Forest Industry. She is upbeat and positive and she really has made progress with getting diversification happening in Mackenzie. She spends HOURS of her own time working for this town. Yes she gets a small wage but it does not make up for the zillions of hours she puts in on her own.
I have spoken to hundreds of long term community members as where I am employed hundreds come into our office and the majority LOVE this town and feel it will survive and are not giving up! Yes many commute to jobs in Chetwynd, Tumbler, Fort Mac etc and come back a week in,a week out etc to see their families but they are doing that because they want to stay here.
Our town has no decay as you call it.. Sure it has a few depressed souls but after losing their jobs of 20 plus years who wouldn't be a little depressed?
We have a beautiful community that is clean, safe, well maintained and we have the freshest air you could breath!
I encourage people to voice their opinions too and at our next election as you go mark your ballet think about who has really done something for Mackenzie! Stephanie Killam CARES!!! - Twinkle

Mackenzie Mayor is not resting on laurels

I disagree strongly with the views expressed in the above article. Mayor Killam is the most proactive mayor this town has had. Economic Diversification takes time and is more complicated than Mr. Bugg implies- however the District under the Mayor’s leadership have made and continue to make progress. The phrase ''physical decay and low in morale'' is totally incorrect- the community is resilient and although it needs further improvement, is physically in good shape. - Tim Smith
