Are u voting "no" because you never ride the bus? The last time I rode the bus I recognized a few passengers and NO I was not comfortable with that. - dhood

Since when is travelling greyhound inexpensive? Flying is probably a cheaper (and faster) way of travelling these days, what with standby, price reduction to fill seats, etc. The last time I rode a bus was quite awhile ago and it cost almost as much to take a bus to Kamloops and back as it was to fly. I am sure it is a lot more expensive now than it was back then. Not to mention the crappy departure time and the 2 hour layover in Valemount at 2 AM when nothing is open and you cant even sit inside anywhere to wait for your transfer. Why on earth would you think its ok to allow someone to sit on a bus with a nine inch knife strapped to thier side? Sure, most people carry them just for utility purposes, but as it has been proven in the past, there are nut jobs out there so being a bit cautious in this day and age makes perfect sense. It shouldnt even be at the drivers discretion. Outwardly carrying any type of weapon should be banned on buses period. - MustBMe

now why would you be so afraid rayne, you a frequent flier with G Dog or what? Listen an incident like that will probably never happen again.People who cant afford any other mode of transport have a hard enough time, inciting fear on them like this does'nt make matters better.RIP Mr McLean. - Vogel

The fear that has manifested itself is quite understandable, and I admit I would have some intrepedation before boarding the Dirty Dog meself, but the one thing I remind myself of is, it's a lot easier to evac a bus on the ground than a plane in the air.

I'm pretty sure that drivers are mindful of the implications that these incidents can happen anytime, and they have the discretion of asking passengers to put their knives or similar objects in their checked baggage. Since the Mclean killing, No driver in his right mind would want such an incident on his watch.

May Tim McLean rest in peace. - allniter

Why does everyone keep saying that Tim's murder was an isolated incident?? That is irrelevent!! People are fearful now and shouldnt that count for something? They have a right to travel and feel safe, right? I am stunned that that young man was allowed to travel from Grande Prairie to PG with a 9 inch knife out in plain site. Intimidation!! Come one you guys! Airplanes are not the only form of travel where tragic things happen.
What happened to Tim mcLean was horrific, are we going to wait til it "might" happen again before we decide that something should be done? Peoples fears should be accounted for and noted....instead of wrote off as being "silly"!! - Angelrayne
