Actually November is a quick trial date. Lawyers need to interview witnesses, write motions, etc. etc. I know this officer personally from when he was in PG and all I can say is he's a hell of a nice guy, a good cop, and I wish only the best for him. - travhops

Innocent until prove guilty

Good point Mike S. After all, we don't have the whole story here and who is naughty or nice may not be easily seen through our preconceptions. I think most of us when are exposed to news stories like this, automatically mentally associate them with other historic and recent episodes of police wrongdoing. However, to do so would be unjust to both parties.

I am not concerned about Cpl. Chin being paid to not work because he might well be innocent when all the cards are on the table. However, November trial seems a long way off.

I agree Mike. How quick people are to assume guilt. None of us were there. I too will wait to pass judgment until I hear full details. A criminal is "innocent until proven guilty" but people automatically presume the officer is guilty until proven innocent. The guy was drunk, trying to interfere with emergency personnel treating an injured passenger in an accident he was responsible for, had to be tasered to subdue him, but this officer is immediately considered guilty? Come on people! - travhops

If he was suspended without pay, would everyone not be screaming about "innocent until proven guilty"? I have no idea who this cop is and feel no personal sympathy, but frankly, I don't think many in his situation are feeling like they are on vacation. Either way, I noticed one line in the letter that said "His trial date is set for Nov. 19, 2008". I'll wait. - Mike S

Wow. I wish I could get suspended with pay from my job. I haven't had a paid vacation for years. That so-called 'holiday pay' on my paycheck doesn't count, either, because the government takes it all in deductions, the greedy sots.

The whole concept of suspension with pay is a bad joke because as long as the money keeps rolling in, the naughty boy is completely unaffected by the concept of right and wrong anyhow. This is a blatant waste of tax dollars which renders the 'punishment' completey ineffective.
