This dog-kickin' dimwit should also consider the possibility that the dog could turn on HIM. It's happened before--those jaws can rip one of his feet off--and a dog can move a hell of a lot faster than any of us humans.

I "love" dogs very much and I hope to own of my own one day. I spoil my brother's dog when I can, which isn't often as we don't live close by. (he has a Golden Retreiver)
I am not in a position to care for a dog right now in my life therefore I know it would not be fair to the dog or myself to have one. I for one, don't not like to see an animal being abused and would report it to the SPCA right away.
Unfortunatley dogs can't speak for themselves so they become abused when the owner doesn't agree to what they may or maynot do. I wish stronger laws would come into place so these people can pay for what they do. Maybe they need to be kicked around or tied up like they do to their pets. It hurts me to read about abuse done to any animal as they don't deserve it! I have seen very caring owners who treat their pet like their child. My brother is one of those owners. - DCH

I also forgot to mention all the irresponsible people who believe that their dogs are "disposable" and have no problem with dumping them off at the shelter without a care that they may very likely be euthanized for lack of homes and shelter space. It sickens to me to look at all the ads in the paper and buy and sell that are full of "for sale" and "free" dogs that people decide are now too inconvenient for them to care for any longer. - Nessie

Had this incident of abuse been directed towards a child, you can bet that people would feel differently about the situation. Unfortunately, abuse towards animals is all too well tolerated in our society, which is a primary reason as to why it is still so prevalent. Same goes for people who continue to chain up their dogs, let their animals run around loose and get hit by vehicles and then end up replacing them with another dog who will suffer the same fate etc. I really will never get people who don't see a problem with any of these situations.... - Nessie

There should be mandatory owner training for all dog owners. However I do not think it would help as some dog owners just should not be allowed to own a dog. Lets face it some dog owners get a dog just to say hey look what I own its kinda like saying hey look at my new car. They don't care about the dog just care about having one. To me there is two types of dog owners one who loves and cares for their dog like its part of the family and second people who want a dog for show but have no desire to make it part of the family. My 23 year old daughter owns a rottweiller and this dog is loved like its her child. It has a great temperament and loves kids however my daughter knows that even good dogs can go bad and she does take precautions when children and other dogs are around for their safety and her dogs safety. She also understands that she is responsible for her dogs behavior and fully accepts that concept. - kgs
