Just a few months ago I received an Email from a mill in MacKenzie offering up the huge rewards of being a millwright there. For some reason I just could not leave my employer of choice, and decided to stay put (thanks West Fraser Timber Corp.) - Thoughtful

Diversify? Diversify?

I'm getting really sick and tired of Stephanie Killam. She is so uninspiring and so out of tune with the community. And all she ever says is: We need to diversify. Tourism! Mining! They are the way of the future!

Geez. Half the town are ex-pat Newfoundlanders and we know those lines like the back our hand.

The simple truth is the town is for some lean years. You can't diversify. You can just wait it out. Alas, Killam knows this is not the kind of attitude that will get her re-elected.

The only chance of staying in town is if you commute elsewhere or you sell your house to someone who's commuting elsewhere. The district needs to stop marketing itself to sledders -- they aren't big spenders who can support the whole town by wandering in from the Pine Pass and staying a night at the local hotel. But rather, they need to raise Mackenzie's profile with high income earners out in Alberta's oil patch. - Lap Dog

the liberals r trying hard to have the ridings changed in northern bc cause they know no one will vote for them. makes sense why theyre trying to get the ridings changed for more in the lower mainland the liberal stronghold area. go figure but remember not only are they killing little towns like mackenzie but they also want to charge a carbon tax to you up there makes me sick - sledhead37
