Erna Margit Shiell (Christiansen) (Chris) (Mama Shiell) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and dear friend on Sunday, May 11, 2008. Margit was born in Funen, Denmark on May 2nd, 1921. She graduated from nursing in Copenhagen in 1946 and in 1949 received her diploma in the Treatment of Tropical Disease in Edinburgh, Scotland. Her nursing degrees allowed her to travel the world and experience many wonderful adventures. Along the way, she spent many years as a private nurse for Royals and aristocrats. She moved to Canada in 1954 to continue her practice. She met and married Donald L. Shiell in Vancouver and had one son Christopher. They moved to Prince George in 1963 where she nursed at Prince George Regional Hospital until her retirement. Following her retirement she was "Mama Shiell" to the many children who she greatly influenced and mentored over the years. Margit will be deeply missed by her "boys", son, Christopher Shiell of Hixon, B.C., grandsons Cameron Shiell of Prince George and Jordan Shiell of Salmon Arm and their mother, Shannon Marks of Sorrento, B.C. She will also be missed by her step-son, Robert (Cheryl) Shiell of Calgary, step-daughter, Donna Sadler of Vancouver, her extended family in Denmark and many cherished friends. Mom touched so many people during her time and will always be remembered with fondness. She was predeceased by her husband Donald in 1996. Many thanks to her special friend of many years, Gaye Sache, and to Maria and the Rodica House family for their love and comfort in Mom's last year. Memorial Service will be held at Lakewood Funeral Home, 1055 Ospika Blvd. At 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20, 2008. In respect of Mom's love of all living creatures, in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to either the S.P.C.A. or the Salvation Army. Fly with the wind Mom, soar over mountains and touch the grass. Your work here is complete. "Goodspeed" Much love, Christopher
