College of New Caledonia students voted narrowly in favour of continuing the U-Pass program with an increased fee, the school's student union said Friday.
Of the 273 who voted, 54.7 per cent said yes during a referendum held earlier this month. The results were ratified Wednesday.
In exchange for a monthly fee, which goes up by 88 cents, the program gives students unlimited access to the city's transit system and a pass to the Prince George Aquatic Centre and Four Seasons Pool.
Transit is important to so many of our student members. CNC Students' Union representative Leila Abubakar said. Our members rely on high-quality, sustainable public transit daily to get to and from the college. We really hope that this referendum shows that we want the program and are have negotiated in good faith to maintain it. Its in the Citys hands now.
