Toronto Raptors rookie Terrence Ross selected for all-star slam dunk competition

TORONTO - Toronto Raptors forward Terrence Ross will get to show off his aerial moves during the NBA all-star weekend.

The rookie — who goes by the Twitter handle @T_DotFlight31 — has been selected to participate in the Sprite Slam Dunk competition in Houston.

"Thanks to all the fans who created this movement, an got me in to dunk contest... #RossShallDunk #SpriteSlam," tweeted Ross after the announcement Thursday.

Ross is the fifth Raptors player to take part of the high-flying competition, joining Vince Carter (2000), Tracy McGrady (2000), Jamario Moon (2008) and current teammate DeMar DeRozan (2010 and 2011).

This year's event on Feb. 16 will pit Eastern Conference players versus Western Conference players in a two-round competition. The highest scoring East competitor and the highest scoring West competitor will compete head-to-head to determine the champion.

The East's entry includes Ross, the Indiana Pacers' Gerald Green and the New York Knicks' James White. The trio will be pitted against defending champion Jeremy Evans of the Utah Jazz, along with the Los Angeles Clippers' Eric Bledsoe and the Denver Nuggets' Kenneth Faried.

The all-star festivities begin Feb. 15 at the Toyota Center.
