With the hopes of increasing awareness of men's health and prostate cancer in Prince George while supporting the first prostate cancer support group in town, the second annual Rotary Big Blue Ball is set for Movember 2 at the Coast Inn of the North.
There's dinner, speakers and a dance featuring music by the Brandon Isaak Band, an award-winning musician, who is donating his time as his way of supporting the cause.
"What you're going to hear is a lot of original music and blues and ragtime and even some gospel music," said Isaak. "It's going to be funky - a nice little mix."
Isaak will be accompanied by Nick Tindale, Patrick Kilcullen and Steve Smith.
During the event ,guest speaker Dayna McKay, from the village of Lax Kwalaams and founder of Into The Sea Cancer Free, will share the story of her swim from Fort Simpson to Prince Rupert to support men's health in her rural first nations community. Then Dr. Larry Goldenberg will offer his knowledge on the subject.
Prostate cancer affects a large number of people, with one in seven men experiencing prostate cancer in their lifetimes. Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among men in Canada but if diagnosed early there is a 90 per cent success rate.
Tickets are $75 at Coast Inn of The North. For more information visit The Big Blue Ball on Facebook or e-mail i...@thebigblueball.ca.
