Junior volleyball players took centre stage last weekend as they battled for supremacy at the 2013 PGYVC Junior Kodiak Classic.
When the final spike landed the D.P. Todd Trojans junior boys team emerged victorious after defeating the College Heights Cougars 2-1 (25-14, 18-25 and 15-5). In the bronze medal match, the Duchess Park A Condors held off the PGSS Polars in straight sets 2-0 (25-15, 25-17).
All-start for the junior boys included: Fraser MacRae (Condors A), Carter Karpenko (Condors B), Graham Walkey (Cougars), Spencer Jeans (Polars), Ryan Gaisky (Trojans) and Tyler Hascarl (Cougars). The tournament MVP was the Trojans Brandon Chow.
The junior A girls tournament saw the Duchess Park Condors defeat the College Heights Cougars 2-0 (25-18, 25-16) in the gold-medal game. In the bronze game, the Cedars Eagles edged the PGSS Polars 2-1 (25-8, 19-25 and 15-11).
The MVP for the junior A girls was Hallie Drezet of the Condors. All-stars included Nicole Watt (Polars), Jamie Kwiatkowski (Eagles), Haley Marquette (Cougars), Megan Warner (Cougars), Marcie Schlick (Condors) and Madison Landry (Condors).
In the girls junior B tournament the Cougars placed first followed by Skeena (Terrace), the Polars and the Kelly Road Roadrunners.
The Junior Kodiak Classic was played at PGSS, D.P. Todd and CNC. The junior boys and junior A girls medal matches were held Saturday at CNC.
