An evening of comedy and refreshments is heading to Art Space tonight and Saturday at 7 p.m.
when the Nechako Community Theatrics Society presents Giving Relationships the Raspberry: A Light-Hearted Look at Love.
Nine cast members will play double duty as crew during this event where six short comedies about relationship woes will be the main course, while a raspberry-themed signature beverage, raspberry lemonade and a sweet treat, white chocolate mud cake with raspberry sauce, will be for dessert.
Laura Bennett, one of the founding members of the troupe formed almost two years ago, will direct while two others, Chris Yule and Seth Logan, will make their directorial debut for the plays written by Bruce Kane.
"It's been very interesting during rehearsals because we're all taking on roles that we haven't done before," said Bennett. "One of the plays is based on the relationship between Dave and Hal in 2001 A Space Odyssey but I'm playing Hallie and rather than being murderous I am trying to seduce the character of Dave."
Big laughs for the audience are ahead for one of the other comedies, GPS - an Auto Erotic Comedy.
"We've got a take on Cindy and Julie - Cinderella and Juliet - after the marriage has fallen apart," said Bennett. "Casanova is giving Romeo some tips on women, so it's been a lot of fun and even after a couple of months of rehearsal, we're still laughing and I think that's a good thing."
Doors open at 6:30 p.m., show at 7. Tickets are $20 each that includes the drink and dessert or $15 when purchased in a group of six or more. They are available at Books & Co., 1685 third Ave. or at the door. Limited rush seating.
