Canada Games test event on the court

These guys are the wheel deal. And they'll be in Prince George this weekend.

On Saturday and Sunday, the Junior West Regional wheelchair basketball championship will be on the court at Duchess Park secondary school. The tournament, which will use a three-on-three format, will feature teams from B.C., Alberta and Saskatchewan.

The event will have some local flavour, as Prince George's Avril Harris is a member of Team B.C. The able-bodied Harris was Wheelchair Basketball Canada's junior athlete of the year in 2010. He's the son of Pat and Nancy Harris, who have been driving forces in local and provincial wheelchair basketball for years.

This weekend's tournament will double as a test event for the 2015 Canada Winter Games. The players will all be age-eligible for the Games. Harris himself is a two-time Canada Games participant.

The championship is being co-hosted by the B.C. Wheelchair Basketball Society and Wheelchair Basketball Canada.

Games will start at 10 a.m. on Saturday and the final is scheduled for noon on Sunday.

Spectators are welcome to attend.
