Prince George should have avoided the brunt of the latest bout of heavy snowfall by the time all is said and done, according to Environment Canada meteorologist Jim Steele.

In a weather warning issued Wednesday morning, Environment Canada called for as much as 30 centimetres in some parts of north-central B.C. by the end of today.

But Steele said Prince George residents should wake up to about 10 cm Thursday and see a further five fall on the city before the pattern gives way Thursday afternoon.

It will be a different story in the B.C. Peace, which should feel the full effect, Steele said. The warning also covers the Bulkley Nechako, Williston and McGregor regions.

An Arctic front had pushed down into the regions on Wednesday morning and was expected to remain in place through Thursday while a mild and moist southwesterly flow from the Pacific was expected to clash with the front to "produce heavy snowfall," Environment Canada said in the warning.
