The Canadian Red Cross is enjoying the sweet taste of success after a fundraising event turned out be very rich indeed.
More than 400 people turned out for the organization's Evening of Chocolate Saturday night - a chocolate-tasting and wine social that raised more than $30,000 for the Red Cross's Disaster Management Program in northern B.C.
"On behalf of the Canadian Red Cross, I would like to thank all the people who attended, sponsored, donated auction items and volunteered," said Stefanie Hencheroff, programs and administration co-ordinator for the Canadian Red Cross western zone.
The Disaster Management teams stay on the ready to respond to anything from an entire region displaced by a flood to helping a single family devastated by a fire at their home. Other teams help families prepare for emergencies so they can be self-sufficient for 72 hours following a disaster.
"The community support we receive - in all forms - is what truly makes the difference in us having such successful fundraising events to enable the important work we do," Hencheroff said.
