Would-be robber caught on victim's camera

RCMP handout photo

A camera a man is accused of trying to steal could help police track him down.

Prince George RCMP have a photo of the suspect taken by the alleged victim during a robbery attempt near Fourth and Dominion sometime around 2 p.m. Monday.

The suspect, a 19-to-25 year old First Nations male, reportedly tried to grab the camera away from a 30-year-old man but was unsuccessful.

The would-be robber did not give up as he chased his victim into a nearby business and struck the man several times, Cpl. Craig Douglass said, before witnesses broke up the attack and the suspect fled.

But by that time, the victim had taken a photo of the suspect which was forwarded to police.

The suspect is further described as about 173 cm (5'8") tall and weighing 73 kgs (160 lbs) and wearing a black ball cap, blue jeans, a dark grey "Ecko" hooded sweatshirt, black runners and a beaded necklace.

Those who recognize the suspect and know where he may be are asked to contact the Prince George RCMP at 250-561-3300 or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, online at www.pgcrimestoppers.bc.ca or Text-A-Tip to CRIMES (274637) using keyword "pgtips."
