Fraudulent firefighter may be on the loose

Prince George RCMP are on the lookout for a man believed to have been impersonating a firefighter while at a local business over the weekend.

Police received the call through Prince George Fire Rescue, who in turn was alerted on Saturday that a man entered the business and claimed to be part of the PGFR's "tactic team," which does not exist, and questioned the employee about exits to the building.

The man was dressed professionally, wearing black pants and a dress coat and he produced a badge, Prince George RCMP Cpl. Craig Douglass said. However, PGFR firefighters are not issued badges and whenever they carry out inspections, they're in uniform and arrive in a fire truck or other marked PGFR vehicle.

"Although it was not clear as to the suspect's motive, it is possible the man was attempting to gather more information about the business' security measures and access points," Douglass said.

The suspect is further described as about 45 years old, with red and grey hair, about 183 cm (six feet) tall and with a muscular build.

Anyone who may have information on the incident is asked to call Prince George RCMP at 25-561-3300 or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1(800)222-8477, online at www.pgcrimestoppers.bc.ca (English only), or Text-A-Tip to CRIMES (274637) using keyword "pgtips".

As well, anyone with concerns about the validity of fire inspections is asked to call PGFR administration at 250-561-7667.
