Kings' road trip spins out in Express lane

The Prince George Spruce Kings final road trip of the regular season didn’t go according to plan as they fell 5-3 to the Coquitlam Express on Friday night.

Malcolm McKinney and Zachary Pryzbek gave the Express (22-29-1) a 2-0 advantage in the B.C. Hockey League game but the Spruce Kings (23-20-1-7) responded with three consecutive goals to go up 3-2 early in the third period. David Stephens, Bryant Christian and Shayne Morrissey scored for Prince George. But less than a minute after Morrissey gave the Spruce Kings the lead, Justin Georgeson tied the game at 3-3.

Will Cook notched the winner about three minutes later and Pryzbek added the empty net goal to clinch it.

Kirk Thompson took the loss in the Spruce Kings’ net while Cole Huggins earned the 24-save win.

The Spruce Kings are in Chilliwack to face the Chiefs (20-19-1-1) tonight at 7 p.m. before returning to Coquitlam for an afternoon game Sunday.
